Why You Get a Firm Price Instead of Just a Starting Price
Most tailor price lists in Nairobi stop at starting prices because the final job depends on too many variables. A shirt taken in by two centimetres on the waist is a very different job from a shirt re-shaped across the shoulders, the body and both sleeves. A trouser hem on a plain fabric is a fifteen-minute job while a hem on a tuxedo trouser with satin taping and a turn-up can take an hour. A shoe resole on a cemented rubber sole is routine while a shoe resole on a stitched leather sole with a hand-finished edge takes several hours. Publishing one price for all of those would either shortchange the tailor or scare off the customer, so every tailor in Nairobi gives starting prices and confirms on inspection.
What we do differently is send the firm price back within the hour, before pickup. You send a photo on WhatsApp. David reads it, works out the job, and sends you the price plus the turnaround. If you say yes, the rider collects, the work is done, and the finished item is returned on one invoice at the price you were quoted. There is no moment where a piece of work suddenly becomes more expensive than what you agreed to, and there is no deposit to lock you in. That is the entire reason we push so hard on the photo-first workflow.
The price ranges on this page are organised by category so you can see the realistic range for any job before you contact us. If your job sits at the bottom of a category, the price will be at the bottom. If it sits at the top, the price will be at the top. If it falls outside the range entirely, that usually means it is a bespoke or full restoration job and belongs in a different category, and we tell you so honestly instead of quoting a number that will change later. You can read more about how this works in practice on any of our service pages, for example the suit alterations page or the leather repair hub.

Rush Turnaround and Seasonal Pricing
Standard turnaround vs rush turnaround
Standard turnaround is included in the price on this page. Rush turnaround is available on some services and is quoted at the time of booking, subject to capacity. Rush pricing reflects the fact that a rush job moves other work to keep the deadline and is staffed at a premium.
| Service | Standard | Rush | Rush premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shirt hem, trouser hem | 1–2 working days | Same day / 24 hours | Quoted at booking |
| Suit jacket sleeve | 3–5 working days | 2 working days | Quoted at booking |
| Full suit rebuild | 5–7 working days | Not usually available | — |
| Bridal basic alteration | 5–10 working days | 4 working days | Quoted at booking |
| Bridal bodice rebuild | 7–12 working days | Not usually available | — |
| Leather jacket zip | 2–3 working days | 24 hours | Quoted at booking |
| Leather jacket reline | 3–5 working days | 2 working days | Quoted at booking |
| Shoe resoling | 2–3 working days | 24 hours | Quoted at booking |
| Wallet repair | 1–2 working days | Same day | Quoted at booking |
| Belt resize | 2–3 working days | 24 hours | Quoted at booking |
Seasonal pricing and peak periods
FitFix does not apply seasonal surcharges. Prices on this page are the prices we charge all year round. However, capacity does compress at certain periods, and rush availability is reduced during those windows. Planning around these periods is the single best way to keep your job on the standard price.
- January school term start — peak demand for school uniform alterations. Book uniforms two weeks before term starts to avoid the rush premium.
- April school term break — peak for casual wardrobe refreshes and holiday clothing alterations.
- May school term start — second school uniform peak of the year.
- June to August — KCSE prom season. Prom dress alterations run at their heaviest, with rush availability reduced on bridal and formal work.
- September to October — wedding season peak in Nairobi. Bridal programmes typically run six to eight weeks ahead of the wedding date and need to be booked as early as possible.
- November to December — Christmas and end-of-year weddings, plus the second prom season for the second school leaving group. Both bridal and prom work run at peak.
- Mid-March and mid-September — long rains. Leather and shoe repair volume increases as items come out of storage and need cleaning and conditioning before the next season.
None of these periods carry a different price. They simply mean that standard turnaround is the same but rush availability is lower, so booking earlier is the best way to keep costs predictable.
How to Reduce Your Tailoring Bill
Most clients can reduce their bill by 10–30 percent without reducing the quality of the work by following six practical habits. None of them involve haggling, and none of them change the price for the work being done.
1. Bundle multiple adjustments on one item in one booking
Every pickup, delivery and job setup has a fixed overhead that we absorb. When a client bundles a hem, a taper and a waist adjustment on the same pair of trousers in one booking, the total is less than the sum of three separate bookings because we plan the whole job in one pass. Where you have two or three adjustments on the same garment, always book them together.
2. Send multiple garments from the household on one pickup
Three shirts, a pair of trousers and a jacket collected together cost less than the same items collected separately, because the rider is already on the route. FitFix does not charge per pickup, but the logistics of three separate pickups still cost more than one. Family and household batches always work out cheaper overall.
3. Book before you need the item
Standard turnaround is included in the price. Rush turnaround is a premium. If you can plan a week ahead rather than a day ahead, you avoid the rush premium entirely. This is the single biggest saving available on any job, and it is entirely within the client's control.
4. Send accurate photos on the first message
A clear photo of the whole item and a clear photo of the problem area means we can quote accurately the first time. Where the photo is unclear and we have to ask for more photos or bring the item in for assessment, the job still costs what we quoted, but the process is slower and the risk of a revised quote is higher. Clear photos solve both.
5. Address small issues before they become big ones
A wallet that has started to split at the fold can be repaired for KES 500 today. The same wallet left for another year will need a full reconstruction or a replacement. A leather jacket with a small crack in the lining can be relined for KES 2,500. The same jacket left for two more seasons will need the entire lining replaced plus surface refinishing on the leather itself. Repairing at the first sign of trouble is always cheaper than repairing at failure.
6. Use the leather care package when sending multiple leather items
The leather care package at KES 2,800 covers shoes, belt, wallet and bag cleaned and conditioned together, which is less than sending the same four items for individual cleaning. If you have multiple leather items that need maintenance rather than repair, the package price is always better.
What Affects the Final Price
Four factors decide where on a price range your specific job will land. Understanding them helps you send the right photos and get the most accurate quote the first time.
Fabric and construction
A plain cotton shirt is quicker to alter than a lined silk blouse. A fused suit jacket is quicker to take in than a fully canvassed one. A cemented rubber sole is quicker to replace than a hand stitched leather sole. When you send a photo, tell us what the item is made of and whether you know how it is constructed. If you are not sure, we work it out from the photo and confirm on collection.
Number of adjustments
A single adjustment on one garment costs less than the same adjustment repeated across multiple areas. A trouser hem at KES 300 sits at the bottom of the range. A trouser hem plus waist plus seat plus taper on the same pair climbs to the top. Bundling multiple adjustments on one item and one pickup is almost always cheaper than sending the same item back three separate times.
Condition of the item
An item that arrives clean and in good condition is a straightforward job. An item that has been repaired badly elsewhere, has hidden damage under the lining, or has failed at a point that requires opening more of the garment to fix costs more because the work takes longer. Where we find a hidden problem after collection, we send you a photo and a revised price before starting the extra work, so nothing is added without your agreement.
Turnaround
Standard turnaround runs from one to five working days depending on the job. Rush jobs within 24 hours are possible on some services and are quoted at the time. If you have an event or trip with a specific date, tell us when you send the photo so we can confirm we can meet it before you commit.
