How Free Pickup and Delivery Works

Four steps from the first WhatsApp message to the finished item back in your hands. No deposit, no inspection fee, no hidden charges.

  1. Send two photosOne of the whole item, one close up of the area that needs work. Add your estate or office location and the pickup window that suits you.
  2. Get a firm price and a pickup windowWe reply with the final price, the turnaround and the exact collection time. Nothing is left open for the rider to renegotiate.
  3. Free pickupThe rider arrives at the agreed time, collects from your hand, reception desk, security desk or estate gate, photographs the item, tags it and issues a receipt on the spot.
  4. Free delivery backWork is completed to the price you were quoted and returned to the same address on one invoice. Pay by M-Pesa, cash or bank transfer on delivery.

Why We Do Pickup Free Instead of Charging for It

Most workshops in Nairobi charge for pickup and delivery because it is a real cost. Fuel, rider time, a working phone line and the admin of tracking every item in and out all add up. We decided years ago that charging separately for it would only slow down the job, because the client who is debating between "send it in and pay a rider" and "walk it in myself on a Saturday" is a client who often just gives up and buys a new shirt. The cost of pickup is small when it is spread across a working day of collections in the same estates, and the benefit of removing the friction is that people actually send their items in to be repaired instead of letting them sit in the wardrobe.

That decision has built a specific kind of client base. A corporate client in Upper Hill who has three suits that need the jacket sleeves shortened will not send a junior staff member out for half a day to drop the suits at a workshop in another part of town. But they will leave the suits at reception with our rider's name written on a note, and they will pay by M-Pesa on delivery because the whole thing happens inside the building they work in. A parent in Karen with three school uniforms to alter will not drive across town with a boot full of shirts, but they will hand the uniforms to the gate security guard at 8am and get them back on Friday. A bride in Lavington with a wedding dress and four bridesmaid dresses will not want to move that much fabric around the city in a car, but she will schedule one free pickup and let us handle it all on one invoice.

Removing the pickup fee also lets us do the small jobs that other workshops do not want. A single belt that needs a buckle replaced, one wallet with a split fold, a pair of shoes that need a polish. Those jobs are not worth the ride on their own, but they are worth doing when a rider is already passing through Westlands or Kilimani that afternoon and can add them to the round. Our riders run scheduled routes through the major estates every working day, and small jobs slot into those routes at no extra cost to the client. That is why we can offer a free pickup on a KES 500 wallet repair and still be profitable, when most workshops would need to charge a KES 300 delivery fee just to make the job worthwhile.

Free pickup also means we see the item in person before we start. Most Nairobi workshops quote from a photo and then discover on inspection that the job is more complex than it looked, and either the client is charged more than the quoted price or the workshop quietly makes a loss. Our rider photographs the item on collection, we compare the collection photo to the client's original photo, and if the two match, the price does not change. If the collection photo shows a hidden problem, we call before starting the work and either revise the price with the client's agreement or return the item untouched and free of charge. That is the entire reason the free pickup is worth more than the price of a ride.

The one thing we ask in return is accurate photos and a nominated collection point. Two clear photos and a correct estate or building name take ten seconds to send and save us an hour of routing. Where the pickup point is a reception desk or a gate, tell us the receptionist's name or the gate number so the rider walks straight to the right place without a call. Small details on the client's side turn a good pickup into a same-day pickup, and same-day pickup is the difference between an item that gets fixed before the weekend and one that waits until Monday.

What We Collect on Every Free Pickup

Anything FitFix repairs or alters can be collected on a free pickup. There is no minimum order value and no limit on the number of items on a standard pickup, though for very large batches (over 40 items) we ask for advance notice so we can plan the route and the box space properly.

What You Need to Have Ready at Pickup

Nothing complicated. Have the item bagged or boxed if it makes sense for that item, and have your phone with you so the rider can confirm arrival. If you are leaving the item at a reception desk or estate gate, make sure the person on duty knows the rider is coming and knows your name. Everything else the rider handles on the spot, including issuing a receipt and taking a fresh photo of the item as collected. You do not need to fill in forms, print labels or provide any paperwork at the point of collection.

What Happens to Your Item Once Collected

Every item is photographed on collection and logged against your WhatsApp thread on the same day. It travels directly to the workshop in Industrial Area, is assessed against the original photo, and work begins on the same or next working day depending on the queue. If anything about the item differs from the original photo in a way that changes the price or the turnaround, we call before starting. Otherwise the job runs to the quoted price and turnaround, and the item is returned to you on the same free delivery. There is no separate handover to a third party and no subcontracting, so nothing gets lost between collection and delivery.

What Happens When You Get the Item Back

The rider brings the finished item to the address you nominated, hands it over, and issues the final invoice. Payment is by M-Pesa, cash or bank transfer on delivery. If the item is a bridal gown, a leather jacket or any item that benefits from careful handling, it travels back in a protective garment bag. If the item is a pair of shoes or a small leather good, it travels back wrapped in a protective cover. You have the chance to check the item on delivery before you pay, and if anything about the finish is not what you expected, you can raise it on the spot and we will sort it out. Every item is covered by the 14-day workmanship warranty described on the warranty page.

Who Uses Free Pickup Most in Nairobi

Certain client types use free pickup more than others, and it is worth explaining the patterns because they say something about how the service is designed.

Office workers in the CBD, Upper Hill and Westlands

These clients do not have time to leave a workday for a tailor. They book a pickup that lands at reception during lunch or after hours, and they get the item back at the same desk a few days later. It is the same pattern whether it is a suit that needs the jacket sleeves shortened, three shirts that need slimming, or a pair of leather shoes that needs a resole. In Upper Hill specifically we often see the same rider collecting from four or five offices in the same building in one afternoon, because the corporates know each other and the rider's number gets passed around the corridor.

Parents with school uniforms

Three or four uniforms at a time, collected from the estate gate on Monday and returned on Friday. The alternative is a Saturday morning in traffic that no parent wants, so free pickup turns a chore into a single WhatsApp message. Kileleshwa, Lavington, Kilimani and Karen families make up most of this category, and the school uniform peak runs twice a year at the January and May term starts.

Bridal parties

Wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride outfits and groomsmen suits all move together on one booking, one pickup and one delivery. The logistics of moving that much fabric around the city would otherwise be a full day of driving, so scheduling a pickup is the only practical option. For bridal parties we schedule the pickup three to five weeks before the wedding and the delivery ten to fourteen days before, so any final adjustment has time to be made without a rush.

Corporate clients and small offices

A hotel with 40 staff uniforms that need altering before a new season, a security firm with 120 pairs of boots that need resoling, an accounting firm with six new graduates who all need two suits altered before they start. Free pickup and delivery on bulk orders runs on a scheduled route with one invoice per batch. The entire batch is tagged per staff member at collection, altered to a matched standard, and returned with a per-staff breakdown. See the corporate services page for the full process.

Leather goods clients

A single wallet, a belt buckle replacement, a pair of shoes for stretching. These are exactly the jobs that do not justify a special trip across town, but they are worth doing when the rider is already passing through. Free pickup is what makes the small jobs viable, and it is why we repair so many wallets and belts that would otherwise be thrown away. The leather care package from KES 2,800 is the most common way this category uses the service, since it covers shoes, belt, wallet and bag in one pickup and one invoice.

Diplomatic, expatriate and NGO households

These clients often prefer the pickup to be as discreet as possible, and they often send items across several household members on one booking. We sign confidentiality agreements where required and we never identify a client's residence or household in any public material. The same free pickup and free delivery applies, with a protective garment bag for gowns and suits and a per-household tracking system so nothing is mixed up.

If you fall into none of those groups and you just need one item collected, that is fine too. There is no minimum order value and no category of job that is refused just because it is small.

How We Keep Your Items Safe in Transit

A pickup is only as good as the care taken moving the item between your address and the workshop. Over the years we have built a set of habits that mean almost nothing gets damaged in transit, and the ones below are the ones that matter most.

Protective garment bags for formal and leather items

Any bridal gown, formal dress, suit jacket, leather jacket or any item made from a delicate fabric travels on a dedicated hanger in a protective garment bag. That bag stays with the item through the workshop and is used again for the return delivery. It is the same bag on the way in and the way out, so there is no risk of a gown being transferred to a different cover mid-process.

Wrapped and boxed small leather goods

Wallets, belts, buckles, watch straps and small leather goods travel in a padded box or a protective sleeve on the route. Shoes travel in pairs in a padded bag. Bags travel in a dust cover where the client provides one, or a soft wrap where they do not. Nothing rattles around loose in a rider's bag.

Photo tagging on collection

Every item is photographed on collection, and that photo is logged against your WhatsApp thread the same day. The photo is the record of what we received and the reference we compare against if there is any question later. It also protects both sides: the client knows the item was received exactly as they handed it over, and we know exactly what state the item arrived in.

Per-item tracking in the workshop

Each item carries a tag with your name, the booking reference and the service booked. That tag stays with the item from collection through the workshop and back to delivery. If a household sends five items on one pickup, the five items travel separately through the workshop with their own tags and are reassembled at delivery. Nothing gets mixed up with another client's items even when the same work is being done on several pieces at once.

Rider care

Our riders are not couriers in the abstract sense. They are the same people who handle our pickups every day, and they are trained to handle garments, leather goods and shoes with the same care the workshop would apply. A jacket is never folded onto itself in a way that creases the shoulder. A pair of shoes is never stacked sole to upper. A dress is never bundled. Small habits, but they are the reason we almost never have a transit issue.

If you have a specific concern: Tell us on WhatsApp before the pickup. If you want the item collected in a particular way, if it needs to travel flat rather than hung, if it needs to travel covered rather than exposed, we will note it on the collection instruction and the rider will follow it. No request is too specific where it protects the item.

What Is Not Covered by Free Pickup

Almost everything is covered. There are three honest exceptions, and it is better to say so upfront than to leave a client guessing.

Outside the Nairobi ring

Free pickup and delivery applies within the Nairobi ring. Anywhere beyond that — Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Thika, Machakos, Kajiado and any other town — is handled by courier at the client's cost. You send the item to our Industrial Area workshop using a courier of your choice, we repair it, and we ship it back using a courier of your choice at your cost. The same photo-first quote process applies: send photos on WhatsApp, get a firm price, then ship the item in.

Very large batches without advance notice

Batches over 40 items should be booked with advance notice so we can plan the route, the box space and the workshop queue. That said, there is no charge for a large batch — the pickup and delivery are still free — it is simply a matter of scheduling. Corporate clients with recurring monthly or quarterly pickups are scheduled a full year ahead.

Collection from a residence when no one is present and no drop-off arrangement has been made

If the rider arrives and no one is at the property and no gate or reception drop-off has been arranged, we cannot collect the item without a second trip. We do not charge for the second trip, but the pickup moves to the next available window. The way to avoid this is to leave the item with the gate, the reception desk or the house manager and tell us who to ask for by name.

Cancellation and Rescheduling

Cancellation and rescheduling are free at every stage. There is no cancellation fee, no rescheduling fee and no penalty for changing your mind.

Before collection

If you cancel before the rider is dispatched, there is no charge at all. If the rider has already left the workshop but has not yet reached your address, the same applies: no charge, no fee. The pickup simply moves to the next available window, or is removed from the schedule entirely.

After collection but before work begins

If you cancel after the item has been collected but before work has started, we return the item to you on a free delivery and there is no charge for either the collection or the return. Nothing is deducted for the rider time or the collection photos. This is the honest cost of running a free pickup service and we absorb it without passing it back to you.

After work has started

If you cancel after work has started, we stop where we are, return the item in its current state, and there is still no charge for the collection or the return. Where a partial job has been completed and the client wants to keep that partial result, we charge for the partial work at a fair rate agreed with the client before we continue. Where the client would rather have the item back untouched, we return it as it was collected.

After delivery

After the item has been delivered and paid for, cancellation is not possible because the work has been completed and accepted. Any further work on the same item is a new booking. Every completed job is covered by the 14-day workmanship warranty described on the warranty page.

The rider will wait for a short while and call you. If you cannot be reached, we reschedule for the next available window at no extra cost. If you have arranged a gate or reception drop-off, the rider will collect from the agreed point and issue a receipt on the spot without needing to see you.
