FitFix Warranty

Every alteration, repair and restoration completed at FitFix is covered by a 14-day workmanship warranty, counted from the date the finished item is delivered back to you. If a seam opens, a stitch fails, a zip breaks away from the slider, or a repair fails because of how we did the work, we correct it at no cost, collect it free and return it free. If the failure is normal wear, wearer damage or a change in measurements since the work was completed, we tell you honestly and quote a fair price to fix it. Nothing is hidden behind small print.

What the FitFix Warranty Covers

The FitFix warranty covers workmanship. That is the single sentence that explains the whole thing. If the work we did fails because of how we did it, we correct it at no cost. If the work fails for any other reason, we assess it honestly and either correct it at a fair price or tell you that it cannot be corrected. This is the same standard we would want if we had sent a garment or leather good to a workshop ourselves.

Workmanship failures we cover

  • A seam we stitched has opened within 14 days of delivery.
  • A stitch we sewed has come undone within 14 days of delivery.
  • A zip we fitted has failed at a point away from the slider within 14 days of delivery.
  • A buckle we fitted has come loose from its fold within 14 days of delivery.
  • A heel or sole we fitted has come loose within 14 days of delivery.
  • A hem we shortened has started to unravel within 14 days of delivery.
  • A bodice, corset, bustle or lining we built has failed within 14 days of delivery.
  • A leather repair we completed has started to lift at the repair point within 14 days of delivery.

For any of the above, WhatsApp 0705 728 896 with your name, the date of delivery, a description of the issue and a photo if you have one. We collect the item free, correct the work and return it free. There is no charge for the correction and no charge for the collection or return.

What is not covered by the warranty

  • Normal wear and tear. A trouser hem that frays after months of daily wear is normal wear, not a warranty failure.
  • Damage caused by using the item in a way that was not appropriate for its design. A leather jacket worn while painting or a silk dress worn to a food-heavy event are examples.
  • Damage caused by contact with chemicals, solvents, bleach, extreme heat or prolonged soaking.
  • Changes in the wearer's measurements after the alteration was completed. Weight change, muscle gain, or pregnancy can all affect the fit of a garment after the work has been delivered.
  • Any subsequent alteration, repair or restoration carried out by another workshop after the item left ours.
  • Damage to the fabric or leather that was present before the work was done. A pre-existing crack in leather or a faded area on fabric is noted at collection but is not the subject of the alteration.
  • Fit issues caused by the way the item is worn on the day rather than by the alteration itself.
  • Loss or damage after the item is delivered back to you.

Where the boundary between a workmanship failure and normal wear is unclear, we assess the item and tell you honestly which side it falls on. We do not hide behind the warranty period if a failure is clearly our work, and we do not stretch the warranty to cover wear that has nothing to do with us.

How Long the Warranty Lasts

The standard warranty period is 14 days from the date of delivery. This applies to every alteration, repair and restoration we complete, whether it is a KES 300 trouser hem or a KES 25,000 wedding dress restoration. The 14 days start on the day the finished item is delivered back to you, not the day it was collected and not the day the work was completed at the workshop.

Warranty period by service category.
Service Warranty period Notes

Upcountry and international clients (courier) 14 days from courier delivery Warranty period starts on the day the courier delivers the finished item back to you
On extended warranties: Certain jobs carry a longer warranty than 14 days. Stitched leather resoles on shoes where the original stitched construction is preserved, specific buckle replacement jobs on heavy belts, and specific bodice rebuilds on bridal work are examples. Where an extended warranty applies, it is confirmed in writing on the delivery receipt and on the WhatsApp thread for that specific job. If you are not sure whether your job carries an extended warranty, WhatsApp 0705 728 896 and we will confirm.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

A warranty claim is straightforward and takes four steps. There is no charge to make a claim, no assessment fee, and no cost for the correction if the claim falls within the warranty.

  1. WhatsApp us within 14 daysMessage 0705 728 896 with your name, the date you received the item, and a description of the problem. If you have a photo of the issue, send that too. A single WhatsApp message is enough to open the claim.
  2. We assess the claimDavid reviews the description and photo, and where needed asks for a close-up photo of the specific area. Where the claim is clear, he confirms the correction straight away. Where the claim needs an in-person assessment, we schedule a free pickup.
  3. Free pickupIf the correction is covered, the rider collects the item from your home, office, reception desk or estate gate free of charge. The item is assessed at the workshop the same day.
  4. Correction and free returnWe correct the work at no cost and return the item to you on a free delivery. The whole process usually takes three to five working days from the collection of the item for the correction.

What to Include in a Warranty Claim

The fastest claims are the ones with the most information. When you open a claim, include the following.

  • Your name — the name under which the original job was booked, so we can find the record.
  • Date of delivery — the day the finished item came back to you. This is the date the 14-day warranty period starts from.
  • Service booked — for example, "trouser hem", "leather jacket zip replacement", "shoe resoling", "wedding dress bodice rebuild". This helps us find the exact record on the bench.
  • A description of the problem — what is happening, when it started, and whether it started during normal wear or at a specific moment.
  • Photos — one wide photo showing the item, and one close-up of the failure point. Daylight, not flash at night.

What Happens If a Claim Is Not Covered

Not every claim falls within the warranty. That is honest and it is why we say so upfront rather than hiding it. Where a claim is not covered, one of three things happens.

1. The failure is normal wear and we quote a fair price to correct it

A trouser hem that has frayed after six months of daily wear, a shoe sole that has worn through after a year of walking, a leather jacket zip that has failed because the wearer pulled it hard every day for two years. These are all normal wear, and the correction is a new job rather than a warranty correction. In those cases we quote the standard price for the same job, and where the original client is returning the item, we often apply a small loyalty discount at our discretion. That discount is not a warranty right, it is a courtesy.

2. The failure is wearer damage and we explain what happened

A silk dress with a stain from food that was spilled on the night, a leather jacket with a scuff from a fall, a suit sleeve that was caught on a door handle and tore. These are not workmanship failures, and they are not covered by any workshop's warranty. We assess the item, tell you honestly what happened and, where the repair is possible, quote the price to correct it. Where the repair is not possible, we say so directly.

3. The item cannot be corrected and we offer a fair resolution

Very occasionally an item is genuinely beyond correction. This usually happens on very worn leather, on heavily damaged fabric, or on garments where the previous repair has compromised the structure. In those cases we tell you honestly that we cannot correct the item, explain why, and offer a fair resolution. That resolution might be a partial credit against a future job, a recommendation to a specialist for that specific problem, or an agreement that no further work is possible. We do not leave a client without a clear answer.

On refunds: FitFix does not offer refunds on completed alteration or repair work because the work itself cannot be returned once it has been carried out on a garment or leather good. A trouser that has been hemmed cannot be un-hemmed. A leather jacket that has been relined cannot be un-relined. A shoe that has been resoled cannot be un-resoled. That is the reason the correction-at-no-cost model exists instead of refunds, and it is the standard approach in the tailoring and leather repair trade. Full detail is on the returns and refund policy page.

Bridal, Corporate and Bulk Work

Bridal alterations

Bridal alterations are covered by the same 14-day workmanship warranty, counted from the final pickup of the gown. Because wedding dates are fixed, we also offer additional support in the immediate run-up to a wedding where a bride notices an issue close to the date. That support takes the form of a dedicated pickup and an emergency correction where capacity allows. Rush bridal corrections are not guaranteed, but we will always assess what is possible and tell you honestly within the hour.

Where a bridal alteration involves bodice rebuilds, corsetry and bustle construction, the work is more substantial than a simple hem and the warranty covers any failure of the work itself. Should a bustle hook pull out on the day of the wedding, or a corset bone work loose within the warranty period, we correct it at no cost. What we cannot control is what happens to the gown on the wedding day itself after the bride has left for the ceremony.

Corporate and bulk orders

Corporate and bulk batches are covered by the same 14-day workmanship warranty per batch, counted from the date the batch is delivered back to the client. Corporate clients are asked to check the batch on delivery and report any individual piece that falls short. Where a piece falls within the warranty, we correct it at no cost on the next scheduled pickup or on a dedicated pickup if needed.

For corporate accounts on invoiced terms, warranty corrections are handled the same way as for private clients. There is no separate charge, no minimum batch size for a warranty claim and no penalty for raising a claim. The point of the account structure is that warranty issues are resolved quickly so the client team is not left with unusable uniforms.

Wedding parties and group bookings

Groomsmen parties, bridesmaid groups and mixed wedding party bookings are covered per piece within the 14-day warranty period from the delivery of the batch. Where one suit or one dress in the batch fails at a seam or at the hardware, we correct that single piece at no cost and return it on the next delivery. We do not require the whole batch to come back.

How We Stand Behind the Work

The warranty is one part of standing behind a job. It is not the whole of it. What we try to do across every job is the same thing: assess honestly, quote honestly, do the work properly the first time, and fix what goes wrong without a fight.

The first piece of that is the honest assessment. Before any work starts, David assesses the item and tells you what is and is not possible. Where a leather jacket is too small to let out, we say so. Where a wedding dress has cracks in the bodice that will not hold a corset, we say so. Where a shoe has been resoled so many times that the welt will not take another sole, we say so. Telling you that a job is not worth doing, or that it will not hold, is the most valuable thing we can do, and it is the reason the workshop is called before any work begins on a job that was quoted on photo.

The second piece is doing the work properly the first time. The right thread for the fabric, the right stitch length for the seam, the right edge finish for the leather, the right hardware for the buckle, the right boning for the corset. A job that is done properly the first time rarely needs a warranty correction, and the majority of FitFix work does not come back within the warranty period. That is the standard we work to, and the warranty is a safety net for the rare cases where something slips.

The third piece is fixing what goes wrong without a fight. When a client tells us that something is not right, our first response is to ask for a photo, our second response is to assess honestly, and our third response is to fix what is ours to fix. We do not argue about the boundary between workmanship and wear. Where we are wrong, we say so, and where the client is wrong, we explain. That is the entire process, and it is the reason the workshop has survived on referrals for fourteen years.

What we ask from you: Check the item on delivery. If something does not look right on the day, tell us on the same WhatsApp thread within a few hours of delivery so we can compare the delivered item against the collection photos we took. If the issue is on our side, we correct it immediately. The earlier you flag something, the easier it is to resolve, and the collection photo we took at pickup is the reference we compare against.

Warranty FAQs

Ten questions about how the FitFix warranty works. Every answer matches what you get on WhatsApp.

What does the FitFix warranty cover?

The FitFix warranty covers workmanship on any alteration, repair or restoration completed at our Industrial Area workshop in Nairobi. If a seam opens, a stitch fails, a zip breaks at a point away from the slider, a buckle comes loose from its fold, or a repair fails within 14 days of delivery, we correct it at no cost. The warranty is limited to the work we did, on the specific item we worked on, and it does not extend to other parts of the garment or item.

How long is the FitFix warranty?

Fourteen days from the date of delivery for workmanship on all alterations, repairs and restorations. This is the standard warranty period for every job. For certain services, such as specific resoling jobs on stitched leather soles and specific buckle replacement jobs on heavy belts, a longer warranty may be confirmed in writing at the time of the job. If a specific job carries an extended warranty, that is noted on the delivery receipt and on the WhatsApp thread for that job.

How do I make a warranty claim with FitFix?

Send a WhatsApp message to 0705 728 896 within 14 days of delivery with your name, the date you received the item, a description of the issue and, where possible, a photo of the problem. David assesses the claim, tells you honestly whether it falls within the warranty, and either confirms the correction at no cost or explains the position. Where the correction is covered, we collect the item free of charge and return it free of charge once corrected.

What is not covered by the FitFix warranty?

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by use of the item in a way that was not appropriate for its design, damage caused by contact with chemicals, solvents, extreme heat or prolonged soaking, changes in the wearer's measurements after the alteration was completed, and any repair or alteration that was subsequently carried out by another workshop. A trouser hem that frays after six months of daily wear is normal wear. A suit sleeve that pulls apart at the seam a week after delivery is workmanship and is covered.

Do you offer refunds if a job is not done correctly?

FitFix does not offer refunds on completed alteration or repair work because the work itself cannot be returned once it has been carried out on a garment or leather good. If a job has not been done correctly, we fix it at no cost within the 14-day warranty period. If the item is beyond correction, we assess it individually and offer a fair resolution. Full detail is on the returns and refund policy page.

Does the warranty cover bridal alterations?

Yes. Bridal alterations are covered by the same 14-day workmanship warranty, counted from the final pickup of the gown. Because wedding dates are fixed, we also offer additional support in the immediate run-up to a wedding where a bride notices an issue close to the date, subject to capacity. WhatsApp 0705 728 896 in that situation and we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Does the warranty cover corporate and bulk orders?

Yes. Corporate and bulk orders are covered by the same 14-day workmanship warranty per batch, counted from the date the batch is delivered back to the client. Corporate clients are asked to check the batch on delivery and report any individual piece that falls short. Where a piece falls within the warranty, we correct it at no cost on the next scheduled pickup or on a dedicated pickup if needed.

What if a seam or a stitch fails after 14 days?

Tell us anyway. Even after the 14-day warranty period, if a seam we stitched fails in a way that suggests a workmanship problem rather than normal wear, we assess the item, tell you honestly what happened and offer a fair price to correct the issue. We do not hide behind the warranty period if the failure is clearly our work. Where the failure is normal wear, we say so, and if the garment or item needs a new repair, we quote accordingly.

Can the warranty be transferred if I give the item to someone else?

Yes, in most cases. If you give an altered or repaired item to a family member or a friend within the 14-day warranty period, the warranty transfers with the item. Tell us who now holds the item and how to reach them, and we will handle the claim with them directly. After the 14-day period, the warranty has ended and any further work would be quoted as a new job.

Does the warranty apply to upcountry and courier clients?

Yes. The same 14-day workmanship warranty applies to upcountry and international clients who send items to us by courier. The 14-day period starts on the day the courier delivers the finished item back to you. Where a claim is made within the warranty period, we correct the work at no cost. Courier costs for shipping the item back to us and returning it to you are at your expense for upcountry clients, as with any other job.
